নিজস্ব প্রতিবেদন ঃ শনিবার বিশ্ব প্রবীন দিবসকে সামনে রেখে শিলিগুড়ি রথখোলা ওয়েলফেয়ার অর্গানাইজেশন চত্বরে প্রবীন মানুষদের জন্য চোখ পরীক্ষা শিবির অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। ইনার হুইল ক্লাব অফ শিলিগুড়ি উত্তরায়নের উদ্যোগে দ্য হিমালয়ান আই ইন্সটিটিউটের সহযোগিতায় সেই শিবির বসে। মোট ৪১ 
জনের চোখ পরীক্ষা করার পর ১৯ জনের চোখে ছানি ধরা পড়ে। চার জনের চোখে রেটিনার সমস্যা ধরা পড়েছে। যাঁরা দুঃস্থ তাদের চোখের ছানি অপারেশন বিনামূল্যে করে দেওয়া হবে বলে ইনার হুইল ক্লাব অফ শিলিগুড়ি উত্তরায়ন থেকে আশ্বাস দেওয়া হয়েছে। অনুষ্ঠানে ইনার হুইল ক্লাব অফ শিলিগুড়ি উত্তরায়নের সভাপতি শ্বেতা আগরওয়ালা, সম্পাদক রীতা মজুমদার এবং ডোনা ব্যানার্জী উপস্থিত ছিলেন। তাছাড়া দ্য হিমালয়ান আই ইন্সটিটিউটের সি ই ও কমলেশ গুহ সহ অন্যরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
With many senior citizens deferring visit to hospital due to covid-related fear, there is a rise in number of patients with advanced stages of matured cataracts and other eye related disorders. Today on World Senior Citizen Day, 21st August, Inner Wheel Club of Siliguri Uttorayon in collaboration with The Himalayan Eye Institute has organised an eye screening camp at Rathkhola Welfare Organisation, where 41 senior citizens underwent eye screening of which 19 patients were identified with Cataracts, mostly hyper-mature conditions, and 4 patients were found to have retinal eye diseases. Inner Wheel Club of Siliguri Uttorayon has come forward to sponsor the cost of cataract surgeries of the needy senior citizens at The Himalayan Eye Institute.
For any society, its elderly population is a source of great wisdom and pride. Senior citizens day is dedicated to raising awareness about the issues that affect older adults. Vision problems are common in elderly. Reduced eyesight can result in restricted mobility. However, most sight threatening conditions can be treated successfully if detected on time and senior citizens can stay active and healthy.
During today’s eye screening camp, Sweta Agarwal, President, and Rita Mazumder, Secretary and Dona Banerjee of Inner Wheel Club of Siliguri Uttorayon were present along with Kamalesh Guha, CEO and other medical staff of The Himalayan Eye Institute.
